My name is Philly and I am the founder of FlipsCo Cards. Before launching the business in 2018, I spent 12 years teaching English in secondary schools in and around Bristol.
The cards themselves were conceived while I was still teaching. I wanted to create a revision resource that was affordable, engaging and genuinely useful – something students could use independently and teachers could trust. While still teaching full-time, I spent evenings and weekends developing the first set of cards, initially trialling them with local schools. The response from both students and teachers was incredibly encouraging, and it quickly became clear that the cards were filling a real gap in the revision market.
After several years in teaching, I made the difficult (and pretty risky) decision to leave the profession and focus full-time on the cards. Since then, I’ve worked with former colleagues to refine the content for a wide range of attainment levels and collaborated with illustrator Imogen Foxell to bring the themes and characters to life.
As education evolves and AI becomes an increasingly common part of school life, I still strongly believe in the value of high-quality physical learning resources which continue to play an important role by giving students a focused, screen-free way to engage with and revisit key content without distractions.
After a slow start, a stellar 2019 and some challenging years since then – not least thanks to the pandemic – FlipsCo Cards is still going strong and remains a one-woman band. I collate the cards and pick, pack and dispatch all the orders from my home office in Gloucestershire.
Thank you for supporting an independent business and keeping this teacher engaged in her profession, albeit from further away than before.
